Is That You Woody ?1851 viewsA rare sight in my neck of the woods, this Woodpecker was enjoying the warm Autumn Afternoon in the White Birch Tree in my front yard. Partly cloudy skies and a high of 70.9 degrees at my Weather Station in Altadena, CA made for a wonderful day.

I believe this is a Yellow Canary. No fancy names. At any rate, he has survived the wrath of the Mongoose on Hawai'i. I really enjoyed all the different animals and birds that I saw on this trip. The warm weather wasn’t bad either.

Reticulation1973 viewsI couldn't get these Zebras to look at me so I had to settle for their butts. The pattern of black and white reminded me of a process in film developing called "Reticulation" where tiny cracks are formed in the films emulsion.

'Iole manakuke1747 views
The Indian Mongoose was originally brought to Hawaii in 1883. It was believed that the mongooses (no, not mongeese) would help control the rising Rat population on the Islands, but the mongoose is mostly active during the day while the rats were active at night and they didn't have much of an impact on the rats.

H21965 viewsThe Humming Birds love the Mexican Sage (Salvia Leucantha) in my yard. They are very territorial and will stake claim to a favorite bush and confront other Humming Birds who try to feed on it.
