Is That You Woody ?1867 viewsA rare sight in my neck of the woods, this Woodpecker was enjoying the warm Autumn Afternoon in the White Birch Tree in my front yard. Partly cloudy skies and a high of 70.9 degrees at my Weather Station in Altadena, CA made for a wonderful day.

I believe this is a Yellow Canary. No fancy names. At any rate, he has survived the wrath of the Mongoose on Hawai'i. I really enjoyed all the different animals and birds that I saw on this trip. The warm weather wasn’t bad either.

An Apple A Day2041 viewsThis Squirrel was really enjoying the apple. He munched on it for quite a while while I took photos of him. Taken at San Clemente State Beach Campground.

Sparrow1896 viewsThere weren't a lot of poppies this year so I spent more time taking photos of the wildlife. Taken at the Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve located near Lancaster, CA

Double Teaming1846 viewsThese Seagulls are waiting for handouts. We could toss some crackers into the air and the bids would catch them in flight. Taken 2/20/06 in San Felipe.

Reticulation1992 viewsI couldn't get these Zebras to look at me so I had to settle for their butts. The pattern of black and white reminded me of a process in film developing called "Reticulation" where tiny cracks are formed in the films emulsion.

The Indian Mongoose was originally brought to Hawaii in 1883. It was believed that the mongooses (no, not mongeese) would help control the rising Rat population on the Islands, but the mongoose is mostly active during the day while the rats were active at night and they didn't have much of an impact on the rats.

Lady Bugs1958 viewsThis photo, as well as the other Lady Bug photo was taken at the 8000 ft level of Mount Waterman in the San Gabriel Mountains. I was surprised to see so many in one place at one time. Looks like they're enjoying themselves.

H21985 viewsThe Humming Birds love the Mexican Sage (Salvia Leucantha) in my yard. They are very territorial and will stake claim to a favorite bush and confront other Humming Birds who try to feed on it.
