Sundown Dunes2207 viewsThe setting Sun was casting an orange hue on the Sand Dunes at Dumont. Dumont is located 30 miles North of Baker CA near the Southern tip of Death Valley. It was a windy day and the winds in the upper atmosphere were affecting the clouds. I m not sure I would classify this cloud as Lenticular but it was getting close. Taken 3/25/06.Nov 23, 2006

I believe this is a Yellow Canary. No fancy names. At any rate, he has survived the wrath of the Mongoose on Hawai'i. I really enjoyed all the different animals and birds that I saw on this trip. The warm weather wasn’t bad either.

A fast moving cold front moved through Los Angeles today bringing about .24" of rain and a high temperature of only 55 degrees at my station in Altadena. Light snow was reported at Mt. Wilson. This photo is looking West from Altadena at the La Crescenta area above Glendale. A break in the clouds let the rays of sunshine through. A beautiful day.

Red Flag Sunrise2001 viewsTaken 2/7/06
Another Red Flag Warning for Southern California. Gusty Winds and extreme Low Humidity prompted another day of Red Flag Fire Danger. This beautiful Sunrise, looking East from Downtown Los Angeles is unfortunately made more dramatic with smoke in the air from a fire burning out of control in the Cleveland National Forest. Over 3500 Acres have burned with some progress being made this morning. Fortunately there have not been any injuries or homes lost at this point in time.

Reticulation1993 viewsI couldn't get these Zebras to look at me so I had to settle for their butts. The pattern of black and white reminded me of a process in film developing called "Reticulation" where tiny cracks are formed in the films emulsion.Nov 23, 2006

Kilauea is the world’s most active volcano. Once thought to be part of the Mauna Loa Volcano, it is now known to be a separate unique volcano. All the current activity on Kilauea is at the Pu’u O’o Vent. Lava flows from Pu’u O’o Vent into the ocean. This photo was taken at approximately 6:53 p.m. from a distance of about 2 miles. The red glow of molten lava can be seen as it flows into the ocean creating tall plumes of steam.
