Cooler temperatures aloft and lack of a Coastal Eddy prohibited formation of the Marine Layer last night. Warmer temperatures and clear skies are forecast for the rest of the week. This is a welcome change from our traditional “June Gloom” here in Los Angeles. This shot was taken at 6:15 a.m. from approximately 2.5 miles Northeast of Downtown Los Angeles. Several storms out in the Pacific were beginning to affect Northern California with heavy rain. These same storms were causing heavy surf all along the coast. A large west-northwest swell continued to affect the outer coastal waters of Southern California today. Breakers of 8 to 12 feet, with locally higher sets, pounded the coastline. In thid photo, Los Angeles City Fire Dept Bulldozers build a burm of sand to protect the businesses and residences along Venice Beach.

Kansas City Thunderstorm3102 viewsI was visiting Kansas City, MO and I was staying in the Downtown Marriott Hotel. A nice Thunderstorm was passing through and I was watching it out my window on the 14th Floor. I got to see several good lightning strikes and was able to capture this one with my camera. Taken with my Canon 5D, 30 second exposure @ f14, ISO 100.
