Altadena Sunset2013 viewsThis was taken 12/11/05 at about 2000 ft elev from a street above my house. Moist air made its way up into Southern California from the Gulf Of Mexico bringing with it some interesting weather and beautiful Sunsets. Taken with my Canon Digital Rebel and a 75-300mm Zoom Lens.

Another Day Another Bear 7-23-20181118 viewsThis Bear has been on the street several times the last few days. He was leisurely enjoying some fresh oranges off of our neighbors tree. Didn't seem to be bothered by us at all and likewise it didn't bother us.

He has a Yellow Tag in his ear. Might be Bear #515. I'm trying to find out more about him from Fish and Wildlife.

Is That You Woody ?1868 viewsA rare sight in my neck of the woods, this Woodpecker was enjoying the warm Autumn Afternoon in the White Birch Tree in my front yard. Partly cloudy skies and a high of 70.9 degrees at my Weather Station in Altadena, CA made for a wonderful day.

Minotaur 41924 viewsSeptember 22, 2005 marked the first Vandenberg AFB dusk launch in nearly three years. The Minotaur booster Lifted off from south Vandenberg just after 19:24 PDT, the start of a 16-minute launch window.
This fourth photo gives you some perspective and an idea of how much this filled the sky. It was awesome. The Pasadena Courthouse and a large tree are visible in the foreground. Venus can still be seen about 10-15 degrees above the horizon.

The Bear Is Back2427 viewsThe Bear is back after a short hiatus. I had heard that Bears don’t hibernate in warm climates like Southern California but maybe this one actually did hibernate for a short time.

He was actually on the street 3 nights in a row this week. He got into trash cans on a couple of nights and left a large pile of Scat in the street. Leila was excited. She was picking up the Bear’s scent on our morning walk.

Cougar 2-13-20132424 viewsA neighbor actually saw this Cougar walking on the street in the early morning. He alerted me to check the CritterCam. Lo and behold, there it was. What a surprise.

Fire4256 viewsThe glow from a small brush fire near the top of Lake Avenue can be seen on the right side of this image. Living along the foothills, we are always alert to fires. The sirens woke us up and we went up the street to watch. Quick work from the Los Angeles County Fire Department had the fire under control quickly.

Strong winds buffeted Southern California last night and this morning causing wide spread damage. Fallen trees, downed power lines, etc. Sustained winds at my station were 30 mph with gusts as high as 42 mph. Combined with extremely low humidity, these conditions have prompted a Red Flag Fire Alert. These palm trees were all leaning to the South as the winds roared out of the North.
