Waipi'o Valley1931 viewsTaken 4/2/06
Located on the Northeast side of the Big Island of Hawai’i, the Waipi’o Valley is a plush green area of the island that receives annual rainfall of over 200 inches per year. Access to the Valley Floor was over an exciting 4WD Road with a 25% Grade that drops almost 1000 feet in about a mile. It was well worth renting the Jeep Cherokee at the airport. Once at the bottom you are treated to a beautiful mile long Black Sand Beach.

Pu' u O' o1909 viewsTaken 4/3/06
Kilauea is the world’s most active volcano. Once thought to be part of the Mauna Loa Volcano, it is now known to be a separate unique volcano. All the current activity on Kilauea is at the Pu’u O’o Vent. Lava flows from Pu’u O’o Vent into the ocean. This photo was taken at approximately 6:53 p.m. from a distance of about 2 miles. The red glow of molten lava can be seen as it flows into the ocean creating tall plumes of steam.Nov 23, 2006

Quebec 1 and Quebec 2. Those are the Radio Callsigns for the two Super Scoopers from Canada. Every year, beginning Oct 1, these 2 amazing airplanes are loaned to the Southern California area during our Fire Season. They were at the Hollywwod Burbank Airport and special permission was given to use them early to fight this fire. They fly to a nearby lake, or even the ocean, and scoop up 1000's of gallons of water which they precisely drop on the hot spots.

Mauna Loa1910 viewsTaken 4/6/06
Rising gradually to approximately 13,679 feet above sea level, Mauna Loa is the largest volcano on our planet. This enormous volcano covers half of the Island of Hawai`i and by itself amounts to about 85 percent of all the other Hawaiian Islands combined. Mauna Loa is among Earth’s most active volcanoes, having erupted 33 times since its first well-documented historical eruption in 1843. Its most recent eruption was in 1984. This photo was taken from the 13, 796 foot Summit of Mauna Kea. Nov 23, 2006

On The Wrong Track2192 viewsTaken 1/11/05
This photo taken along the Union Pacific Tracks by the Arroyo Las Posas in Somis, CA. After 5 days of heavy rain (14.38 inches at my station in Altadena) this river undermined the tracks and left them hanging high and dry. Unfortunately it took Fiber Optic Cables with it. AT&T, MCI, Sprint and Level 2 all experienced outages related to this slide. Nov 23, 2006

Look Out !2051 viewsTaken 4/6/06
While driving along the Saddle Road that goes between Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa, my Brother and I encountered this warning sign. We had read about the Military Base located in the area and the possibility of encountering Military Vehicles or Aircraft, but seeing this sign added a little excitement to the trip.
