A Bird In The Hand . . . 682 viewsThanks for the heads up from Altadena WeatherCam viewers Mario & Brenda Miralles. This Black Phoebe stopped by to visit Mr. Bill this morning. I’ve seen them searching for flies around the yard (which they are good at). I didn’t know they liked to hang out with Mr. Bill also.Nov 30, 2019

Hey Boo Boo. There's a picnic on Hollyslope Road1080 viewsMeet Bear #513. According to the Department of Fish and Wildlife its a young female that tagged in Monrovia in May of 2017. They estimated her weight then at 200 pounds. She was pretty calm and wasn't bothered by me taking pictures of her. I used a telephoto lens of course. UPDATE This might actually be Bear #515.Oct 20, 2018

Another Day Another Bear 7-23-20181165 viewsThis Bear has been on the street several times the last few days. He was leisurely enjoying some fresh oranges off of our neighbors tree. Didn't seem to be bothered by us at all and likewise it didn't bother us.
He has a Yellow Tag in his ear. Might be Bear #515. I'm trying to find out more about him from Fish and Wildlife.Jul 29, 2018

She'll Be Comin' 'round The Mountain When She Comes2982 viewsThis was pointed out by Normand, one of the many fans of the Altadena WeatherCam. A nice shot of a helicopter circling over the San Gabriel's the other night. It was a Sunday evening so they were probably looking for a lost/overdue hiker. The Green and Red Navigation Lights cause the change in colors in the streak of light. Oct 07, 2014

The Bear Is Back2467 viewsThe Bear is back after a short hiatus. I had heard that Bears don’t hibernate in warm climates like Southern California but maybe this one actually did hibernate for a short time.
He was actually on the street 3 nights in a row this week. He got into trash cans on a couple of nights and left a large pile of Scat in the street. Leila was excited. She was picking up the Bear’s scent on our morning walk.
