Lowe Fire 12512 viewsA small brush fire in Altadena, CA, 8/26/07, was brought under control quickly by Angeles National Forest and Los Angeles County Fire Crews. Due to the rough terrain, the fire was fought primarily from the air with the support of Camp Crews. In this photo, one of the new BlackHawk Helicopters used by Los Angeles County Fire snorkels water from a "Pumpkin" set up at a nearby Helispot. The BlackHawks can carry 1,000 Gallons compared to 300 carried by older Helicopters.

Desert Five Spot2511 viewsThis delicate purple flower is named for the five red spots which can be seen inside the round bloom. The information I read implied that this was a rare desert flower. The very wet winter brough out quite a few of these flowers.

Quebec 1 and Quebec 2. Those are the Radio Callsigns for the two Super Scoopers from Canada. Every year, beginning Oct 1, these 2 amazing airplanes are loaned to the Southern California area during our Fire Season. They were at the Hollywwod Burbank Airport and special permission was given to use them early to fight this fire. They fly to a nearby lake, or even the ocean, and scoop up 1000's of gallons of water which they precisely drop on the hot spots.

New Found Friends2503 viewsLeila's new best friend is Stone, Whitney's new kitten. They love to chase each other through the house. Well . . . . Leila chases Stone but when she stops Stone goes looking for her. Here they are taking a littl "Cat Nap".

Lunar Eclipse August 28, 20072502 viewsThe Moon is just beginning to emerge from the Umbra. The red glow of the eclipsed Moon can be seen as usual but I was also looking for the "Turquoise" that I had been reading about lately.
I saw it in person. It was beautiful.
I had a hard time focusing though (as you can tell).
