Purple Mountain's Majesty2371 viewsTaken 9/16/06
The setting Sun and smoke from the "Day" Fire combined with the rugged San Gabriel Mountains created this interesting gradation of color and tone.

Gold Dust Gecko2251 viewsThe Gold Dust Day Gecko is a very colorful lizard that averages 4 to 5 inches in length. It's body is mostly bright green but you can see specks of gold color along it's back. The top of the eye is bright powder blue. This little guy was hanging out at our hotel in Keauhou. He was very friendly and let me get close enough for this picture.

Bob Westphal2617 viewsThis is the photo I was trying to recreate. As you can see i didn't get it exactly right. This is my Dad in front of a B-17 in Europe.
Thanks to the wealth of information available on the Internet, I found out that "WALLAROO" was part of the 303rd Bomber Group and flew 35 Combat Missions before being shot down Jan 14, 1944.
Glad my Dad wasn't on it.

Geminids 12-13-062239 viewsI had the WebCam set up to capture an image every minute in an attempt to catch a meteor. This was in the evening and the radiant was still near the Eastern horizon. The meteor can be seen in the upper left quadrant of the photo. It's trajectory is near horizontal to the horizon.
These images also appear in the WeatherCam Favorites section.

Reticulation2224 viewsI couldn't get these Zebras to look at me so I had to settle for their butts. The pattern of black and white reminded me of a process in film developing called "Reticulation" where tiny cracks are formed in the films emulsion.

A Bad Day Fishing2296 viewsThey say a bad day fishing is better than a good day at work. The local fishermen have returned from their morning catch. Probably a good time to go get some Fish Taco's.

Cooler temperatures aloft and lack of a Coastal Eddy prohibited formation of the Marine Layer last night. Warmer temperatures and clear skies are forecast for the rest of the week. This is a welcome change from our traditional “June Gloom” here in Los Angeles. This shot was taken at 6:15 a.m. from approximately 2.5 miles Northeast of Downtown Los Angeles. Check the local Weather and High Resolution WebCam image from my Weather Station in Altadena at http://www.westphalfamily.com/wxdata2.html

Is That You Woody ?2119 viewsA rare sight in my neck of the woods, this Woodpecker was enjoying the warm Autumn Afternoon in the White Birch Tree in my front yard. Partly cloudy skies and a high of 70.9 degrees at my Weather Station in Altadena, CA made for a wonderful day.
